Robert Rust, LMFT

Goal-Oriented and Efficient:

I focus on making progress as quickly as you can handle, ensuring sessions are impactful and efficient. If you’re motivated to work on change, this approach will likely suit you.

Direct Communication:

I believe in cutting through the fluff. My approach to counseling is straightforward, honest, and focused on clarity. I value direct communication, where we address issues head-on without sugar-coating or using overly gentle language.

Belief-Focused Approach:

I specialize in helping clients identify unhealthy belief patterns and replace them with healthier ones, particularly when these beliefs contribute to anxiety or other emotional difficulties.

Support for Chronic Illness:

I have a passion for working with clients whose emotional and mental health may interact or reinforce their chronic illness symptoms.

Faith-Inclusive Counseling:

My office is located in a Catholic Church, and I am comfortable integrating faith into counseling for those who desire it, though it is not required.

Practical and Actionable Solutions:

I aim to provide practical tools and strategies you can implement between sessions to promote growth and progress.

Experienced and Compassionate:

With years of counseling experience and a focus on empathy, I aim to create a space where you feel understood and supported.

Tailored to Your Pace:

I adapt my approach to meet you where you are emotionally, offering as much structure or flexibility as you need to thrive.

Systematic Problem-Solving:

I excel at helping clients break down complex emotional challenges into manageable steps, guiding them toward clarity and resolution.

Not for Everyone:

My approach may not be the best fit for clients seeking passive or less directive counseling styles. If you're ready to work actively toward your goals, we’re likely a great match.

From Crisis to Counselor

I’ll never forget the day I came home from work and found my wife in bed. All day. She’d been there for hours, lost in a fog I couldn’t understand. I had noticed signs before—she was staying in bed longer each morning, quieter than usual—but that day was different. Something had to change.

The very next day, Valentine's Day, I sat down at the phone and called counselor after counselor, hoping someone could help. By sheer luck, we landed a last-minute cancellation with a counselor who turned out to be exactly what we needed. That first session started a year of weekly counseling for my wife, with me right there beside her.

Over time, as her healing began, I realized I had my own work to do. Counseling didn’t just help her—it changed me, too. By the second year, we were going biweekly. In the third year, only occasionally. But each step forward brought us closer to a healthier, stronger marriage—and better versions of ourselves.

That experience taught me firsthand how transformative counseling can be. It’s not easy to reach out for help, but it’s worth it. Every single day since has been better because of the choice we made to walk through a counselor’s door.

From Engineer to Counselor

Before becoming a counselor, I spent decades working as an engineer. My time in engineering honed my skills in problem-solving, attention to detail, and systems thinking. I learned how to analyze complex systems and find efficient, practical solutions.

That background shapes the way I work as a counselor. I bring the same focus and clarity to understanding my clients’ lives, helping them identify what’s not working and make meaningful, sustainable changes. I work directly and efficiently, guiding clients as quickly as they’re ready to move forward.

I’ve walked the journey of transformation myself, and I know the courage it takes to begin. Today, it’s my privilege to help others take that same step and discover the freedom that comes from healthier beliefs, stronger relationships, and a more fulfilling life.
