Spirituality in the Counseling Process
As human beings, we are not just minds and bodies—we are also souls. Our spirituality is an essential part of who we are, influencing our choices, our struggles, and our healing. Whether we acknowledge it or not, our soul is actively engaged in our daily lives, guiding our decisions and shaping our experiences.
A Catholic Perspective
As a Catholic deacon and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I understand the deep connection between faith and healing. For my Catholic clients, spirituality can be an integral part of the counseling process. When facing challenges like anxiety, grief, or suffering, we can explore ways to unite that suffering with Christ on the Cross. Just as the Mass invites us to offer up our sacrifices, we can bring our struggles into that sacred offering, finding meaning and strength through our faith.
Additionally, Catholic spirituality offers reassurance in our identity—we are created by God, and that alone makes us worthy. Authenticity, self-acceptance, and trust in God’s plan can all be part of the journey toward healing.
Counseling for Christian Clients
For Christian clients who are not Catholic, faith may still play a significant role in healing. I welcome discussions about God’s presence in the midst of suffering, the challenge of trusting Him in difficult times, and even the struggles of doubt and anger toward God. Sometimes, processing a crisis of faith is just as important as addressing emotional pain. My role is to provide a space where faith and counseling can work together, if that is what you find meaningful.

Respecting Every Client’s Needs
While spirituality can be an overlay to all types of counseling work, I also recognize that not everyone wants to discuss faith. If you prefer to focus solely on psychological tools and techniques, I fully respect that. My approach is always tailored to what works best for you.
Whether you are looking to integrate faith into the healing process or prefer a strictly clinical approach, I am here to support you on your journey toward growth and well-being.
